Registering with HMRC for self-assessment

Once you have decided to take that leap - you must tell HMRC by 5th October of the tax year following. 

Say you go self employed from 23rd Feb 2023 - you must register by 5th October 2023.

HMRC can and will impose fines for late registration!

Registration is relatively simple via their website:

My advice is too always do it as soon as you make that decision to go self employed - there is no point in leaving in until the last minute. You will have other more exciting things to do so just get this boring bit out of the way.
